Wit beyond measure art canvas triptych

Hello! How have you been? I've been busy working on a Steampunk Librarian costume for Oz Comic Con (can't wait!) and getting things organised because next month I'm going back to uni! Yay! I am super excited ^_^

I made this quote triptych using just a couple of supplies - you might even be able to make this just with the things in your stash!

Here's how I did it:

1. I spray painted the three canvases with gold, silver, and bronze in a random pattern.
2. When the canvases were dry, I used painter's tape to mask off the areas I wanted to retain the metallic mixture look (you can see what I mean if you look at the diamond  - it's not a solid colour inside).
3. Then I went over the canvases again with a solid layer of metallic spray paint - gold for the two with straight lines of tape and silver for the diamond shape.
4. After leaving the paint to dry overnight, I peeled off the tape and then outlined the shapes with a small paintbrush and acrylic paint.
5. Using a Sharpie, I added the quote on the gold canvases. You could also do this with the acrylic paint but my brush handling skills are not that great! ~_^

I like how this kinda looks like washi tape! ^_^

The quote on this set is from Harry Potter, and I'm really happy with how it turned out, but now I'm thinking of other quotes that could be turned into more canvas art! ~_^

Do you have a favourite quote that you would use, if you made a set like this?

Would yo
u use metallic colours as well, or another combination?

I'd love to hear your ideas! ^_^

These are great. I would have to use some Oscar Wilde quotes - especially - "Women are meant to be loved, not to be understood."

I am liking the sound of the Steampunk Librarian costume too.

of course washi tape is present! lol

really nice! where are you going to put them? I would not be confident writing with a sharpie, my writing is so terrible I'd def mess it up.

And what's oz comic con? is that supanova?

Thanks Sara! I can't wait to starting showing parts of my costume on here! ^_^

You know I love the washi! ~_^

I have a big brick wall that goes alongside our stairs, it already has quite a few frames on it, but I'm going to add the canvases to that. Unfortunately it's really hard to take a photo of because our stairwell is so dark! >_<

Oz Comic Con is separate to Supanova - I don't think they've come to Perth before so Scott and I are super excited about checking it out! Here's the link if you'd like to read about it: http://www.ozcomiccon.com/ ^_^

What a great idea! It does look like washi tape for sure.

Sharpies are such a great all-purpose thing to have around - I'd die without a Sharpie on hand! - but if you're not super confident in your brush control, I recommend trying some nice paint pens. You get the same control as a Sharpie, but more of the paint-y look.

Totally just a fun thing to try that popped into my head because of your brush comment, and not at all a comment on the Sharpie. It looks totes amaze! I hope it doesn't sound that way... Was totally just sharing! Oy!

Paint pens sound like a great idea! I am so glad you mentioned that, Raynor, because it totally didn't even cross my mind! I don't even think I own any, but that can be easily fixed with my next trip to the craft store ~_^
